Farriery Craft

The craft of farriery is known to date back over 2,000 years to a time when the application of an iron shoe overcame the problems of wear to an equine’s foot.

Farriery Examinations

The Worshipful Company of Farriers founded its modern examination process in 1890 with the Registered Shoeing Smith examination.

Awards and Training

To become a qualified farrier in the UK takes about four years and involves sitting exams, being continually assessed and serving an apprenticeship.

Shows and Competitions

The Company presents awards to promote and publicise excellence in farriery, and to support those farriers who do their best for the horse in their care.
